Course Description

Computer Sound Production is designed to introduce you to the theory and practice of creative sound design and production while building on basic creative concepts, aesthetics and technical skills.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you are required to complete assignments and projects which require you to create, analyse and author work that utilizes critical listening, sound and image synchronization theory and practice. These projects and assignments give you an opportunity to explore the physical properties of sound and develop your skills in the principals and practice of sound recording, editing, mixing and synthesis. You will also develop knowledge of sound history, design and technologies through a wide range of reading.

In this course you will:

- develop sound production skills;
- use computer platforms to create and record sound material suitable for use in a multimedia project;
- demonstrate sound editing concepts using analogue or digital editing platforms;
- combine video and audio clips to produce assets suitable for multimedia use using industry specific hardware and software.


By the end of this course you will be able to:

- critically analyse and describe the roles of sound in a variety of media;
- discuss basic acoustics and the physical nature of sound;
- create file formats for multimedia use;
- create and record voice and other sounds;
- digitize, edit, manipulate and synthesize sound using sound applications.
