Course Description

This is a designated WIL course. Working in a team you will use a range of different techniques such as Design Thinking, Business Process Modelling, User Experience Design, Agile Project Management and Prototyping Environments in conjunction with the skills and knowledge from your previous IS Major and Foundational courses to create a digital business startup.   This course also provides you with a capstone experience, which will give you the opportunity to integrate, critically reflect on and consolidate what you have learnt in your program.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

CLO1. Integrate knowledge and professional skills including ethics, privacy and security to develop a digital business solution that aligns with partner requirements. CLO2. Justify digital business solution design and delivery via project documentation and artifacts. CLO3. Collaborate effectively as a team to recommend a digital business solution and critically analyse feedback to enhance alignment with partner requirements. CLO4. Critically reflect on learning experiences and professional skill development.  


Overview of Learning Activities

This course will have a series of 1 hour lectures and 2 hour workshops. A range of learning activities related to the assessment will take place outside of class time.

In this course you will be encouraged to be an active learner. Your learning will be supported through various in-class and online activities comprising individual and group work. These may include quizzes; assignments; prescribed readings; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; conducting presentations; producing written work and collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects.


Overview of Learning Resources

Various learning resources are available online through myRMIT/Canvas. In addition to topic notes; assessment details and a study schedule you may also be provided with links to relevant online information; readings; audio and video clips and communication tools to facilitate collaboration with your peers and to share information.

Overview of Assessment

All assessment are team-based, with each team made up of at least 3 members:

Assessment Task 1: 15% 
Linked CLOs: 2, 4

Assessment Task 2: 40% (WIL)
Linked CLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4

Assessment Task 3: 45% (WIL)
Linked CLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4

Note: Assessment Tasks 2 and 3 will be jointly evaluated by industry practitioners

Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or in online forums through individual and group feedback on practical exercises and by individual consultation. All three assessment tasks will include a learning reflection and peer assessment element.
