Course Title: Tourism and Hospitality Management Internship

Important Information:
The nature of this internship requires you to be more involved in operations, especially in hotel and FnB context, It is recommended that you have a health check and acquire some First Aid training before commencing this internship. As scheduling workload can create difficulties, you cannot study another course at the same time as BUSM4821/BUSM4822 unless it is taught online and approval obtained from the Program Manager.
This work integrated learning activity is a placement in a tourism or hospitality environment in Vietnam that will provide you with an opportunity to practice the skills and knowledge you have attained from the other courses in the program and develop new skills in observation and problem solving within the placement environment. The placement experience will also focus on collaboration and working with individuals from diverse backgrounds to build skills in cultural competency, empathy and teamwork.
- The duration of the placement is 12 full-time weeks, working 5 to 6 days a week, depending on the business hosting the placement.
- You are responsible for your health and well-being during the placement with support available from the University if you need it. You are expected to act responsibly and within RMITs student behaviour policy, as well as complying with the placement host’s policies. The School will work with you and the placement host to make reasonable adjustments to the WIL activity taking into account any disability and/or an equitable learning plan.
There are pre-placement activities that you must complete before commencing the placement and are described below. You will be supervised by a staff member of the host business, with monitoring by the School staff. The assessment has been designed to help you set goals for the placement and provide you with a mechanism to reflect on your placement experience.
- All the assessment tasks will be marked by the School’s academic staff.
- The placement will be arranged for you by the School.
The WIL agreement and insurance for the placement will be arranged by the School in collaboration with the placement host. Prior to commencing the placement, you must attend the placement orientation session provided by the School and the Program and complete the RMIT WIL Cred. This is a hurdle requirement for this course and must be completed before being permitted to attend the placement and to pass the course. You must provide evidence of having completed the RMIT WIL Cred.

Course Description
Through this work-integrated learning experience, you will apply the skills and knowledge gained from the program and build your practical experience of the contemporary tourism and hospitality management, thereby enhancing your work-related skills and abilities. This course is designed to meet your practical demand, incorporating operational and managerial knowledge, current industry trends, and best practices to ensure you are work-ready.

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management, you will be able to: PLO1- Analyse how globalisation impacted the historical development of the tourism and hospitality industry. PLO2- Apply analytical and quantitative skills to formulate business decisions related to tourism and hospitality management. PLO3- Evaluate and apply leadership theory and practices to diverse management scenarios in the tourism and hospitality industry.
