RMIT's Master of Strategic Procurement is the only postgraduate program of its kind in Victoria.

You'll position yourself for a leading procurement role and become a master of strategic planning, supplier relationship management and creative innovation.

You'll learn to deliver high returns while successfully aligning procurement with a public or private organisation's triple bottom line.

As a qualified strategic procurement specialist you'll:

  • produce cost and service efficiencies for commercial advantage
  • apply your knowledge in market analysis, strategic sourcing, category management, organisational behaviour, business performance and spend analysis
  • make decisions in the context of long-term environmental and social trends associated with strategic sourcing.

Program structure and features

Learning and teaching

RMIT's new Swanston Academic Building offers interactive lecture and tutorial spaces, lectorial theatres, small-group rooms and other innovative spaces.

RMIT offers a variety of learning and teaching approaches including lectures, seminars, studios, workshops, presentations, group discussions and syndicate work. These are primarily in English.

You will have access to the Learning Hub and other online and digital resources through the myRMIT student portal.

Ongoing assessment throughout the semester includes examinations, essays, reports, oral classes, presentations, group projects, research projects, laboratory projects and practical assignments.

Program structure

The program consists of 144 credit points, which generally equal 12 courses (of 12 credit points each).

You'll do a compulsory work-integrated learning course IT Project Management, 2 capstone research projects and electives like study tours.

Industry connections

Guiding the development of the College of Business, both nationally and internationally, is an Industry Advisory Board of high-profile executives chaired by Gerhard Vorster, Chief Strategy Officer, Deloitte. The Board creates a strategic bridge between the latest in technology and design thinking and business.

The market need for this program was recognised by a partnership between the Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN) and the Australasian Procurement and Construction Council (APCC). As part of the ATN, RMIT's specialist Masters program is part of a suite of options available Australia-wide that provides full credit transfer if your career takes you interstate during your studies.

Global opportunities

Int are a unique feature of the program allowing you to combine an overseas travel and cultural experience with the completion of either a 12 or 24 credit point course in intensive mode.

Each year, the School of Business IT and Logistics conducts tours to the USA, China, Vietnam and Canada in partnership with the University of Maryland, Fudan University, Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade, RMIT Vietnam and Ryerson University.

Program entry requirements

A Bachelor degree in any discipline from a recognised tertiary institution with a minimum average of 50% or Pass or GPA 1.0 (out of 4.0).

OR

Defence personnel role (ADF or equivalent) above the rank of captain with 5 years of logistics or supply chain management experience (plus an interview).

OR

Applicants holding a management position with more than 10 years' business experience including management responsibility for an aspect of logistics operations/systems.

Fees

Tuition fees vary according to each program and are adjusted annually.

There are 2 tuition fee types:

  • full fees where you will be responsible for the full cost
  • Commonwealth supported place (CSP) fees where your tuition fee is shared between you and the Commonwealth Government if you meet the eligibility criteria. There are only a small number of CSPs available.

Fee assistance

As a full fee-paying student, you may be eligible to apply for the optional FEE-HELP loan scheme to assist you to pay all or part of your tuition fees.

As a Commonwealth supported student, you may be able to either:

  • pay all or part of your student contribution up front and receive a 10% discount, or
  • defer payment through the HECS-HELP loan scheme.

Other fees

In addition to tuition fees you will also pay the Student services and amenities fee (SSAF). You may be able to defer the fee through the SA-HELP loan scheme.

There may be other additional expenses and administrative fees associated with your studies. These can include textbooks, stationery, printer paper, internet access fees outside RMIT campuses and other relevant costs.
