Admission into Master of Business (Human Resource Management & Industrial Relations) or Master of Business Leadership or equivalent
Course Description
This course is designed to do two things:
- to improve your understanding of research approaches used in organisations and to enable you to understand the research process; and
- to help prepare you to undertake your research project next semester by developing a research proposal and ethics application.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
By the time you complete this course you should be able to:
- critically review research reports and other literature found in academic or practitioner journals and other sources;
- understand the choices available to researchers during the development of a research plan;
- understand the ethical, moral and privacy considerations involved in research and prepare a human research ethics approval application;
- prepare a research proposal;
- understand how to evaluate research outcomes to determine their applicability to the workplace.
Overview of Learning Activities
The course will consist of a series of classes in which you will take part in a range of activities including group exercises, case studies and group discussions. In addition you will undertake independent work that will involve library searches, reading and analysis of articles and completing a range of written tasks.

- Critical literature review; Tender Submission (Research Proposal); and Oral Presentation
