Students wishing to complete the Minor Thesis should seek the advice of the Program Coordinator. The formal pre-requisites for enrolling in this course are: INTE1009 Information Systems Research Methods and a distinction average in courses studied so far.

Course Description

In this course you will explore a problem in depth, complete a critical review of literature on the topic, identify relevant theories and models for research on the topic and report the outcome in a research thesis.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

At the conclusion of this course, you will develop the following capabilities:
- Problem-solving skills acquired while researching your topic
- Communication skills acquired while presenting your solutions to problems in oral and written forms

At the conclusion of this course, you will be able to:
- Develop thorough knowledge of a particular issue in the areas of Information Systems, Information Management and Knowledge Management.
- Undertake a critical review of the literature
- Understand the theories and models that support research in Information Systems, Information Management and Knowledge Management
- Use research methods and tools for gathering and analysing data
- Communicate the findings as an academic thesis/paper.

Overview of Learning Activities

In this course, you are required to undertake independent self-directed work. The direction of this course will be under the general guidance of a supervisor who has knowledge of the area of study and substantial research experience. You should meet with your supervisor on a regular basis to monitor the progress and direction of study. You are expected to write up the findings in a research thesis under the guidance of your supervisor. The thesis is to be submitted for examination with the approval of the supervisor.
You should aim for a refereed conference paper from the thesis.

Learning resources are thesis specific. Please consult with your thesis supervisor. You should be reading books on research methods and academic papers in the areas of Information Systems, Information and Knowledge Management.

The assessment for this course is on the basis of the satisfactory completion of a research thesis.
