Course Description

In this course you will explore the architecture and technology of multi-user open source operating systems and the theory and practice of local and wide area networking, as relevant to a variety of business needs.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Install an open source Linux distribution of Unix, use advanced operating systems commands and effectively conduct system administration tasks.

  2. Perform TCP/IP network analysis, design, installation, and management.
    - HSIN Systems installation/decommissioning (Level 3)

    - DESN Systems Design (Level 3)
  3. Build and manage web based services to support online business infrastructure.

Overview of Learning Activities

This course offers a series of face to face lectures and laboratory based tutorials. Furthermore, many of the theoretical concepts covered in lectures will be demonstrated and developed under safe and supervised laboratory conditions. Networking abilities and skills will likewise be developed within the safety of a protected network laboratory.

In addition to topic notes; assessment details and a study schedule you may also be provided with links to relevant online information; readings; audio and video clips and communication tools to facilitate collaboration with your peers and to share information.
