ISYS1041 – Systems Implementation 1

A working knowledge of object-oriented programming is a pre-requisite for this course.


Course Description

This course provides you with the knowledge for building enterprise applications using advanced object-oriented technology. You will develop practical skills by designing and implementing enterprise applications using a selected platform.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

At the conclusion of this course, you will be able to:
- Critically evaluate appropriate technologies and architectures for implementing distributed business information systems
- Design and implement presentation layer components of distributed business information systems using a web-based interface
- Design and implement business logic layer components of distributed business information systems that are accessible to web clients
- Design and implement business logic layer components of distributed business information systems using specialized frameworks
- Write test cases for distributed business information systems and use unit testing frameworks
- Solve problems systematically, individually and in teams and to communicate the solution orally and as a business report.



Overview of Learning Activities

In order to develop the stated course capabilities, you are expected to actively participate in the following learning activities:
- Regular attendance and active participation in scheduled lectures and tutorials.
- Reading of course notes and other assigned reading materials.
- Satisfactory completion of tutorials and assessment tasks.

While a minimum attendance standard is not compulsory in this course, satisfactory completion of the program is required. Most students will find that regular class attendance is needed to achieve the necessary standard to pass this course.

All course materials are available online. Information regarding access will be given in the first class.

Students are required to purchase the prescribed text.


Overview of Assessment

The assessment for this course is on the basis of the satisfactory completion of a set of practical assignments, and passing a written examination. To pass the course, students must gain at least a pass in both the practical work and in the written examination.

Should the course coordinator deem that variation to the assessment tasks is needed, then this will be discussed with the class and will only proceed with documented consent of 75 percent of the class.
