Course Description
This is an elective course in the program. It builds on a basic understanding of programming achieved in prerequisite course. This course focuses on the use of ready-made components in the creation of applications in a graphical user environment (e.g. Windows). The course makes extensive use of Visual Basic and its library of components to build applications with a minimum of coding. The assignments given in the course have a real world business context and this combined with a popular programming environment can make the course extremely valuable to students/graduates in the work place.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Students should be able to appreciate the circumstances under which a GUI is the most appropriate and be aware of the skills required to produce a commercial GUI.
At the completion of this course it is expected that students will be able to create well-designed business applications. The emphasis of this course is not on programming per se but on development using available components in a graphical development environment.
Overview of Learning Activities
The students will attend lectures and tutorials which will often take the form of a computer workshop. Students will complete assignments where they will create computer applications.
