Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities
The requirement is for students to be able to demonstrate the ability to comprehend and communicate information, legal principles and the results of analysis in accurate, clear , concise and coherent English, using technical terms when necessary.
A basic understanding of the process for problem-based learning is also required.
In addition, students are required to have a basic understanding of the Malaysian legal system, and in particular, understanding of the legal principles relating to agency and trusts, contracts , negligence and statutory interpretation.
This knowledge is introduced in Commercial Law and further developed in Malaysian Company Law. Students are strongly recommended to have completed Commercial Law prior to enrolling in Malaysian Company Law.
Course Description
This Course will enable a student to acquire a basic understanding of the legal principles relating to registered companies.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
The Course provides an opportunity for students to develop generic capabilities which include the ability to:
- apply legal principles to hypothetical legal situations
- conduct effective legal research
- critically analyse legal problems
- communicate in writing in a precise manner using appropriate legal terminology.
Successful completion of Malaysian Company Law means that students should be able to understand and interpret relevant legal principles of company law.
Overview of Learning Activities
The breadth of learning requirements for this course necessitates different learning activities. As such, a variety of activities and assessments are used in this course.
It is assumed that set tutorial work (primarily problem-based ) will be completed by students prior to attending tutorials. This ensures that valuable discussion, extension of concepts and issues requiring clarification can be attended to in the tutorials. Attending lectures is also an important learning activity.

Other materials are supplied either online or in printed form.
Overview of Assessment
Assessment in Malaysian Company Law may take the form of test(s) and/or assignment(s) and an end of semester exam which will test the student’s ability to understand and apply Company Law principles to a variety of hypothetical legal scenarios.
