Course Description

This subject exposes students to the communication techniques and practices of Interior Design. By offering a range of complementary activities, and utilising physical and digital communication media, this subject offers critical and practical experience for designers working within contemporary and future design environments.

Students are required to select one communications studio from a range of topics that will be offered each semester. These may will include;
Digital Video - Exploring the use of video to communication space.
Projection - Utilising projection as a form of design communication
Model-making - Hand model making techniques
Software Modelling and Rendering - Introduction to a range of software applications that allow you to model and render design work.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

To give students greater self-confidence in utilising a variety of communications media as an integral part of the Interior Design process.

Specific objectives will be provided for each topic area undertaken and will be described in detail through the studio guide issued by individual lecturers.

Overview of Learning Activities

In classes students will:
attend lectures by the subject lecturer and guest speakers,
complete specific exercises as directed by the lecturer,
work productively in pairs, larger groups and by themselves,
speak and listen actively, critically in small groups and larger forums,
view and present work in progress for the offering and receiving constructive criticism,
view and present finished projects for the purpose of offering and receiving constructive criticism and for the purpose of formal assessment,
develop specific study programs in consultation with the lecturer.

Out of class students will:
report promptly (and if necessary, confidentially) to the lecturer any difficulties encountered in achieving the Subject Objectives or in completing specified exercises,
undertake unsupervised research,
complete specific exercises set by the lecturer,
organise for a total of 104 hours distributed throughout the semester in which the "out of class" student learning experiences can be prioritised, pursued and fulfilled.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment is project based and is to be advised by individual lecturers in accordance with their specific programs.

Assessment grades: HDH (80-100%), DID (70-79%), CRC (60-69%), PAP (50-59%), NNN, DNS
All work must be submitted to pass this elective. All work must be submitted on time.
