Course Description
This course provides knowledge and skills required to access and interpret the clinical and other health related research literature, with a particular emphasis on Complementary and Alternative medicine
This course does not involve statistical training and the use of statistical methods. Student who require this training should choose an alternative Research Methods course.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Develop skills in research and analytical capabilities
Upon completion of this part of the subject, postgraduate students will be expected to be able to:
- Have an appreciation and knowledge of the scientific methodology and research methods.
- Recognise research designs and data collection methods in health and clinical research.
- Critically evaluate clinical and health related research literature.
- Critically appraise the different research methods used in epidemiology and clinical epidemiology.
- Appreciate the research area of clinical practice.
- Demonstrate knowledge of different methods of measuring disease, illness, injury and dysfunction in epidemiology and clinical epidemiology.
- Demonstrate knowledge of validity, reliability and predictive value for epidemiology and clinical epidemiology.
- Complete written critical reviews of published clinical research journal articles relevant to the subject area of clinical practice.
