Undertaking the project management for evaluation of various yarns to be used in the Fabric Engineering project. Units include: product development; effect of selected fibre on yarn properties; the role of spinning system; yarn structure; market requirement and cost.

Topics covered include:
. definition of product development and requirement analysis;
. selection of fibres, dimensions and properties;
. yarn structure for major end uses ( including spinning systems) and effect on yarn properties;
. testing and evaluation of yarn.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

For the students to gain knowledge and experience in -

Defining the parameters of product development.

Selecting the product and carrying out an initial analysis to determine product quality requirements.

Testing and evaluating selected yarns. Using test results, preparing a product specification of yarn.
Understanding quality evaluation of yarns using Uster international data and statistical analysis of test results.
