Course Description

Environments 2 is the second in a series of four courses in the Environments Stream. Environments 2 is an introduction to skills you need for design development and documentation of design concepts. You are being asked to test and develop your design ambitions for a site through the requirements for construction outcomes. During this process it is anticipated that you will discover new possibilities for the realisation of your design.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

The capabilities that are developed through the program in which you are enrolled are described in the Program Guide.

Program Capabilities which will be developed through this course are:
 

  • Engaging with urban and global complexities through making informed judgments about environmental, social, cultural and political frameworks through design research.
  • Exploring research methodologies
  • Generating creative outcomes to Landscape Architecture projects
  • Understanding the ecological, cultural, economical and ethical issues associated with design practice.


In the suite of environments courses you will develop the capability to address the increasing complexity of the landscape systems in relation to the theoretical, technical and social/political context within which they operate through the medium of design.


Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:
 

- Produce basic documentation drawings such as site plans, planting design plans and grading and set-out drawings,
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of drawing conventions, section, plan, dimensions and scale,
- Demonstrate a basic understanding and capacity to apply grading and drainage,
- Work with plant identification and be familiar with Latin nomenclature, species and classification of plants,
- Develop competency with planting design and plant schedules.
