Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

To qualify for admission to a PhD or Masters degree program the candidate will be expected to hold a relevant first degree (with Honours for PhD) from a recognised tertiary institution and will be required to demonstrate the capacity to pursue research at the required level. Professional experience may be taken into account in the assessment and approval of candidature.


Course Description

The objectives of the course are that students become highly skilled in research and demonstrate an ability to produce novel and significant additions to the body of literature in their area of study.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

The Degree provides specialist postgraduate training in research related to the broad area of health.




At the end of their candidature, students will produce a thesis that describes the work they have performed and that demonstrates the skill to conduct independent research..


The students undertake their research under the supervision of an expert researcher who guides and facilitates their program of research. Students will present their work on an ongoing basis to the School of Medical Sciences in the form of seminar presentations. The skills developed include planning and conducting a research program, writing a critical review of the relevant literature, reporting the results and discussing the significance of the research.
The Degree provides specialist postgraduate training in research that includes extensive work on original research. The research work performed will be presented in the form of oral presentations and upon completion of the work a thesis demonstrating a significant original contribution to research in the discipline area is prepared for external assessment.


Overview of Learning Activities
