Course Description
This course is designed to provide specialist postgraduate training in research and includes extensive work on original research and the presentation of a thesis for external assessment. The degree requires you to show mastery of scientific techniques in your chosen area of specialisation. If you do not have previous research experience in Computer Science, you will be required to complete Research Methods course (COSC2150).
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
You will learn how to conduct research and to report your results in a scientific manner.
Overview of Learning Activities
You will undertake a substantial piece of original research under the guidance of experienced research staff. The research will involve a thorough review of literature in the area, independent research work, and reporting of research results in a scientific manner. Publishing and presentation of interim results is encouraged as part of the learning experience. Coursework in research methods is also incorporated for all students who do not already have a prior research background.
