Course Description

This course represents the first half of a full year web/internet project that aims to provide you with the opportunity to undertake a substantial web based software development project.

This course gives you experience in the development lifecycle of an Internet application for a client. This will involve scoping, specifying, designing, developing, testing, documenting, and delivering a real-world Internet application.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course contributes to the development of the following Program Learning Outcomes:

PLO1: Knowledge - Apply a broad and coherent set of knowledge and skills for developing user-centric computing solutions for contemporary societal challenges.

PLO2: Problem Solving - Apply systematic problem solving and decision-making methodologies to identify, design and implement computing solutions to real world problems, demonstrating the ability to work independently to self-manage processes and projects.

PLO4: Communication - Communicate effectively with diverse audiences, employing a range of communication methods in interactions to both computing and non-computing personnel.


On completion of this course you should be able to:
- carry out the development lifecycle of an Internet application
- develop a real-world Internet application
- write reports on the results of such projects
- prepare and deliver an oral presentation on an industry project development


Overview of Learning Activities

You will work either individually or in a team on a project approved by the course coordinator. This project must meet requirements as agreed with an industry client and approved by the course coordinator. You will participate in the development lifecycle of an Internet application, and report on your work via both written and oral presentations.

You will make extensive use of computer laboratories and relevant software provided by the School.
Lists of relevant textbooks, reference texts, resources in the Library and relevant internet sites will be provided.

The assessment for this course comprises practical/project  work.
