Course Description

Emphasis in this course will be on examining how the actions and activities of significant Australian and international entrepreneurs have contributed to the economic activity and social fabric of the Australian society and other countries. Students will examine case studies of entrepreneurs from Australia and other countries including from Asia, the Americas as well as European entrepreneurs.

In the first two weeks of the course, students will be introduced to the major issues of global competitiveness. Strategies for growth will be reviewed in different contexts. Leadership styles will also be examined.

Through examining case studies and undertaking the simulation the course will cover:
 Strategic decision making in a competitive environment;
 collaboration across boundaries
 managing change and
 international competitiveness


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

On completion of the course Entrepreneurial Field Study students will:
• have an insight into entrepreneurship from a large company;
• understand the issues surrounding developing internationally competitive organisations; and
• understand the cultural sensitivities related to business opportunities.


On completion of the course Entrepreneurial Field Study students will:
• have an insight into strategic issues related to managing an entrepreneurial business;
• understand the issues surrounding developing internationally competitive organisations; and
• understand the complexities of running a multi million dollar public company in a highly competitive environment.

 This is a case study based course; to augment this learning process guest presenters will be invited to share their experiences on how they have developed their business over time.
