Course Description
Engineers who work in manufacturing industries are responsible for managing manufacturing resources. To effectively manage the resources, the engineers need to understand the planning process in manufacturing environment. This course is intended to covers the basics of the planning process in a manufacturing firm
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
The students will develop the following capabilities as defined by Engineers Australia:

This course is concerned with the management of work flow through the manufacturing system.
At the end of the course, the students will be familiar with:
demand forcasting
translation of demand in to production capacity requirements
materials ordering to supply the production plan
inventory control, and the control of orders through production.
Overview of Learning Activities
Lectures will develop fundamental concepts of planning process in manufacturing environment. These concepts will be illustrated by examples. Tutorials will be designed to develop students’ skills in applying theory, covered in lectures, to practical cases. assignments will cover more complex situations than tutorials.
