Course Description

Coursework 4 is undertaken in Semester 2 of the second year of the Masters/Doctorate in Psychology for both professional training streams: Education-Developmental and Clinical. All students undertake a unit in Professional Practices. Students in the Education-Developmental stream also complete a specialist unit in Organisational and Community Psychology while students in the Clinical stream complete a specialist unit in Health Psychology. Coursework 4 is designed to further extend students’ theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in their chosen area of specialised practice.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Students will consolidate and extend their understanding of the theoretical and conceptual underpinnings of their chosen specialisation. Students in the Educational-Developmental stream will develop skills and knowledge about group dynamics and organisational behaviour. Students in the Clinical stream will also expand their knowledge and skills in the fields of health psychology and behavioural medicine. In addition, all students will expand their understanding of the legal and ethical issues in the practice of psychology.


Learning outcomes vary according the specific unit of study undertaken; however, the emphasis is on the development and extension of clinical knowledge and professional skills.

Overview of Learning Resources

For all units, students will receive guidance from lecturers in terms of specific readings, references, and library resources as well as from the clinical experience of the lecturer. Guidance is also given in terms of relevant online resources and agencies.


Overview of Assessment

The assessment tasks vary according to the specific Coursework 4 unit being examined. All assessments are linked logically to the learning objectives for each unit. Assessments include formal examinations, tests, assignments, and practical exercises.
