Course Description

This is a methods course that focuses on investigating, designing, producing and evaluating in the technology process. Students will gain an understanding of computer hardware and software systems; computer operation; computer applications; and implications of computer use for secondary schools. This course will focus on the planning of classroom and curriculum materials for Years 7 to 10.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course is designed to assist students to:
• Develop their understanding of curriculum documents that frame the use of ICT in schools.
• Plan and implement classroom units of work that embed ICT.
• Critically reflect on the role of ICT in schools and for learning.
• Develop practical skills in effectively teaching ICT in diverse school contexts.
• Use curriculum documents and relevant resources to design a course of study and plan classroom activities and materials in Computing and Technology.


Upon completion of this course students will be able to:
• Use curriculum documents to support computer and technology studies.
• Plan and implement suitable activities in computer and technology studies.
• Appreciate the various applications of technology in teaching and learning.
• Understand practical issues in using ICT in school settings.
• Critically evaluate the use of ICT in their practice and school settings.

At the conclusion of this course, students will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following ICT capabilities:
• Understandings of the social and ethical considerations in using ICT safely and responsibly in the classroom.
• Understandings of the role of ICT in learning and implications for the classroom.
• Awareness of a range of contemporary ICT resources suitable for the classroom.
• Skills in using ICT for communication, presentation, work preparation and implementation.
