Course Description

This is a methods course that focuses on the theoretical and practical aspects of teaching Health. This course will examine the definition of Health and its inclusion in the school curriculum. Students will study policy and curriculum development, as well as contemporary teaching and learning strategies. This course will focus on the planning of classroom and curriculum materials.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course is designed to assist students to:
• Develop their knowledge of current curriculum and policy documents that frame the study of Health in school settings.
• Develop a wide range of teaching resources to assist in the teaching of Health.
• Plan and construct curriculum materials for Health.
• Use curriculum documents and relevant resources to design a course of study and plan classroom activities and materials in Health.


Upon completion of this course students will be able to:
• Demonstrate a basic knowledge of current Health documents and initiatives.
• Use and acknowledge a wide range of resources for Health Education.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the scope of Health Education.
• Plan and develop curriculum units and lesson plans for schools using appropriate curriculum frameworks.
