Course Description

This is a methods course that focuses on preparing students to teach Psychology in the senior school. Students will be introduced to the principles and practices involved in the teaching of Psychology. A variety of teaching styles and management strategies will be examined. This course aims to develop teaching skills in assessment, communication and classroom management. This course will focus on the planning of classroom and curriculum materials.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course is designed to assist students to:

  • Develop their philosophy in relation to the teaching of Psychology.
  • Construct a course of study in Psychology using support materials.
  • Develop an appreciation for the processes relevant to teaching and learning in the Psychology classroom.
  • Use curriculum documents and relevant resources to design a course of study and plan classroom activities and materials in Psychology.


Upon completion of this course students will be able to: 

  • Understand the nature and scope of Psychology as currently taught in schools.
  • Plan a course of study, and design lessons and resources for VCE Psychology.
  • Employ ethical research and teaching procedures.

  • Understandings of the role of ICT in learning and implications for the classroom.
  • Awareness of a range of contemporary ICT resources suitable for the classroom.
