Course Description

This is a methods course that focuses on preparing students to teach Psychology in the senior school. Students will be introduced to the principles and practices involved in the teaching of Psychology. A variety of teaching styles and management strategies will be examined. This course aims to develop teaching and learning skills in planning, communication and classroom management. This course will focus on pedagogy, assessment and reporting practices.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course is designed to assist students to:
• Develop their philosophy in relation to the teaching of Psychology.
• Construct a course of study in Psychology using support materials.
• Develop an appreciation for the processes relevant to teaching and learning in the Psychology classroom.
• Effectively assess and report on students’ learning in Psychology.


Upon completion of this course students will be able to:
• Understand the nature and scope of Psychology as currently taught in schools.
• Plan a course of study, and design lessons and resources for VCE Psychology.
• Assess and report on students’ learning in VCE Psychology.
• Employ ethical research and teaching procedures.

At the conclusion of this course, students will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following ICT capabilities:
• Understandings of the role of ICT in learning and implications for the classroom.
• Awareness of a range of contemporary ICT resources suitable for the classroom.
