Course Description
Pre-service teaches will be provided with the broad political, social and economic contexts of literacies and their role in new times. Expanded definitions involved with literacies/numeracies will be explored to meet existing and emerging needs in a multimodal learning environment. Students will explore some of the underpinnings of teaching literacy, multiliteracies and numeracy across the curriculum and investigate which kinds of curriculum perspectives best sustain teaching and learning in new times.
Pre-service teachers will also explore the role of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) in affording new modes of learning and communicating. How might learners choose from multiple modes to best communicate in terms of their particular purpose and audience? Using knowledge gained from Understanding the Leaner and Introduction to New Learning and Professional Practice, pre-service teachers will also examine and critique a range of frameworks that have been developed for the teaching and learning of different fields of study. How are disciplines defined by the own grammar or discourse structure?
