Course Description

The course identifies and examines a number of key areas that constitute the process steps and issues commonly associated with the general commercial printing environment. By means of discovery, investigation, and analysis, the exploration of these key areas in the course aims to promote a clear understanding of their inter-relationships and dependabilities. The understanding arising from the course will provide managers with the knowledge of the scope and requirements of general commercial printing from design to finished product.
The key areas of study in this course are drawn from a holistic perspective of general commercial printing. This broad perspective is further refined and categorized to enable the study of specific aspects such as skills, technology, markets, consumables, workflow, and organisational design.

Overview of Learning Activities

General commercial printing is the most prevalent sector of the industry. Therefore, the learning activities will be varied in order to encompass the wide-ranging scope of this sector.

The activities proposed may include, but are not limited to: formal lectures, tutorials addressing case studies, site-visits, informal classroom discussions, presentations and readings, and an investigative report.
For the majority of the course, students will be encouraged to work collaboratively with their peers, industry, and lecturer.

Overview of Learning Resources

There are no prescribed text for this Course.

The majority of learning resources will be provided during lecturers, or available online through Blackboard.

Overview of Assessment

Written reports
The written reports will be assessed for attitude by considering originality of critical thinking, reflection, academic research, and academic writing standard.

Research report
The research report will be assessed by originality of critical thinking together with depth and breadth of research, and academic writing standard.

Oral presentation
The oral presentation will be assessed by the lecturer founded on quality of presentation, clarity of information, and presentation skills.
