Course Description
In this course you will learn to illustrate textile design ideas through the use of Vector based software. You will interpret your research and original drawings and apply these using Vector based software to generate motif and pattern development appropriate for the specified brief. You will evaluate your design processes and communicate your ideas through digital presentations.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
• Research - Investigate and synthesize visual and text based materials and apply appropriate technologies, materials and processes to create textile based concepts and outcomes.
• Design - Demonstrate techniques to generate creative and original textile based concepts for specific outcomes.
• Digital Media - Develop and apply technical and creative skills using digital media efficiently and effectively for a specific audience.
Upon successful completion of the course you will be able to;
• Describe and interpret collected reference materials to inform illustration and textile design themed project briefs.
• Develop, evaluate and synthesize relevant mark making for the development of illustration and textile design.
• Develop colour palettes, repeat patterns & illustrations and communicate concepts through presentation boards.
• Apply digital media skills for creating and presenting original illustrations and textile designs.
Overview of Learning Activities
This course will take a blended approach in its delivery with learning activities that include; online delivery, lectures held on the Brunswick campus, practical exercises, group discussions, and face-to-face tutorials.
Overview of Learning Resources
RMIT will provide you with resources and tools for learning in this course through our online systems. There is access to web based fashion and textile forecast information, library resources, computer laboratories, colour printers, photocopiers, studios and workshops for completing project outcomes.
A list of recommended learning resources will be provided by your lecturer, including books, journal articles and web resources. You will also be expected to seek further resources relevant to the focus of your own learning.
The University Library has extensive resources for Fashion and Textile Design students. The Library has produced a number of subject guides that includes quality online and print resources for your studies Fashion and Textiles Library Guides.
The Library provides guides on academic referencing and subject specialist help via your Liaison Librarian.
Overview of Assessment
This course has been developed in reference to the BATD assessment guide available through BP121 Mystudies - Canvas
Please refer to the guide in order to familiarise yourself with program assessment methods. At the beginning of each project you will receive a copy of the: brief, teaching schedule and assessment rubric. The rubric should be consulted regularly, as it allows you to self assess and manage your progress. It will be used by your course lecturer/s to assess your project work upon completion.
Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessments may include:
• Assignments and projects
• Individual or group presentations to your peer group and lecturer
