Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities
You should have satisfactorily completed the prerequisite courses GRAP2342 Digital Textile Design and Storytelling and GRAP2343 Digital Textile Design and the Marketplace before you commence this course.

In this course you will produce an industry standard body of digital textile design work to add to your personal portfolio. You will use digital design software skills to assemble a range of creative projects for industry clients.
Using Bitmap, Vector and desktop publishing for layout software you will extend your existing knowledge to develop creative and commercially viable textile designs and presentations working to a industry brief.
You will deepen your critical thinking and practical skills through research, analysis, design development, communication and presentation methods within a commercial industry context.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
In this course you will develop the following program capabilities:
- Investigate, synthesise, design and apply principles of textile design, technologies and materials and processes to create original textile based concepts and outcomes.
- Demonstrate technical and creative skills, critical thinking when identifying and solving problems in diverse contexts for textile, fashion and other design contexts.
- Communicate and present design concepts using a range of formats and strategies in a clear and coherent manner to diverse audiences.
- Apply initiative and judgment in planning, problem solving and decision making in your practice or future study.
At the conclusion of this course, you will be able to:
- Create designs that utilise appropriate textile design thinking and methodology.
- Based on research, develop a professional standard of relevant design concepts for fashion, homewares and other design contexts.
- Use Digital Media to creatively develop design concepts and present finished artwork.
- Investigate and problem solve design issues as they arise.
Overview of Learning Activities
This course will take a blended approach in its delivery with learning activities that include; online delivery, lectures held on the Brunswick campus, practical exercises, group discussions, and face-to-face tutorials.
Overview of Learning Resources
RMIT will provide you with resources and tools for learning in this course through our online systems. There is access to web based fashion and textile forecast information, library resources, computer laboratories, colour printers, photocopiers, studios and workshops for completing project outcomes.
A list of recommended learning resources will be provided by your lecturer, including books, journal articles and web resources. You will also be expected to seek further resources relevant to the focus of your own learning.
The University Library has extensive resources for Textile Design students. The Library has produced a number of subject guides that includes quality online and print resources for your studies Fashion and Textiles Library Guides.
Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. This course has been developed in reference to the BATD assessment guide available through BP121 Mystudies – Canvas. Please refer to the guide in order to familiarise yourself with program assessment methods. At the beginning of each project you will receive a copy of the: brief, teaching schedule and assessment rubric. The rubric should be consulted regularly, as it allows you to self assess and manage your progress. It will be used by your course lecturer/s to assess your project work upon completion. You will be assessed on how well you meet the learning outcomes for this course and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
