Course Description

This course is specifically designed to prepare you in your final year for industry. Both written and oral commercially oriented briefs are presented to you for your creative interpretation within given guidelines. You are required to familiarise yourself with formatting layouts to the camera, meeting specified deadlines and working under the discipline of art direction in line with industry practices.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

At the conclusion of the course the you will have the following capabilities:

• Able to engage in collaborative work in the production of commercially orientated images.  You will
gain experience working under art direction to projects assigned to you during the course of the semester.

• Developed self-management, team responsibility and social skills within a practical, commercially orientated
work environment whilst dealing with strict deadlines.



Overview of Learning Activities

  • You will engage in collaborative work in the production of commercially orientated images.
  • You will be required to articulate clear visual communications in response to layouts and then integrate, adapt and apply your photographic skills in the negotiated production of illustrative images.
  • You are expected to further develop self-management, team responsibility and social skills within a practical, commercially orientated work environment whilst dealing with strict deadlines.


Overview of Learning Resources

Relevant material will be distributed throughout the year where necessary and you are expected to seek out journals and magazines dealing with Advertising, Graphic Design, Design, Photography, Computer Graphics, Marketing and Electronic Communication.

Overview of Assessment

• A minimum of four finished projects.

• Projects must be jointly developed, with professional clients, student mentors or members of the teaching staff.

• Indication of a good understanding of Art Direction, layout design and print production.

Assessment will be on a continuing basis throughout the semester to specified deadlines in accordance with industry practice.
