Course Description

In this course, you will plan and initiate a specific research project in your discipline area, in consultation with your supervisor.

Please note that if you take this course for a bachelor honours program, your overall mark for the course will be one of the course marks used to calculate the weighted average mark (WAM) that will determine your award level. This applies to students who commence enrolment in a bachelor honours program from 1 January 2016 onwards. Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

You will develop the ability to:

  1. plan and organise a research project
  2. place your research in the context of your field of specialization and discuss its relevance to society
  3. develop and concisely state your research questions
  4. write a literature survey relevant to your project
  5. initiate and report on progress in your research project

You will be expected to carry out these activities in consultation and collaboration with your supervisor.

 


Overview of Learning Activities

    This course introduces you to the process of running a specific research project. In a research environment you will plan your Honours project, including specifying the research questions, objectives, hypotheses, methods and analyses to be undertaken during the project.    The assessment for this course is combined with that for your Honours project.
    Your designated supervisor, assisted as necessary by other members of staff, will guide you on a weekly basis in your planning and execution of experimental work.
