Course Description
Fashion Design Project 2 is the pivotal design based course in the second semester of the Bachelor of Design (Fashion) program and is a core course that links to other areas of study. This course involves the generation, exploration and presentation of ideas related to fashion. This course examines the various forms of visual representation within fashion and the means to develop and present design ideas and the exploration and application of practical research methods to stimulate the design process.
This course further extends theoretical and design analysis aspects of fashion and provides a framework for understanding the broader aspects of fashion within past and contemporary societies.
The course provides you with the foundation of design analysis and evaluation as you proceed through the program and links to design studio classes in all years.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
The course aims to develop:
 an understanding and experience in the process of design
 skills in the research, analysis and evaluation of ideas related to fashion and design
 skills relevant to the generation, exploration and presentation of design concepts and outcomes
 an understanding of an individual approach to the practice of design as it relates to fashion
 an understanding of design development process and professional presentation techniques
 a further understanding of relevant processes used in the fashion industry
 an understanding of the role of the fashion industry and system within a contemporary and future context
Overview of Learning Activities
This course includes lectures, information sessions, studio workshops, student presentations and practical exploratory exercises. This course includes two modules and associated assessment tasks that link to other core courses in semester two. The first module is focused on the current state of the fashion industry an understanding of target market segmentation. Module two of this course address analysis of cultural and social influences and the relationship to the development of fashion product and the fashion system.
You will be required to interpret module briefs and the majority of exploratory exercises individually.
Projects, exercises and research will be set for the learner directed hours.
Overview of Learning Resources
Texts and sources will be recommended with reference to specific study areas. Details will be provided at the beginning of each module.
You will be required to cover expenses for some specialised equipment such as 2D design materials. This will generally be available through the RMIT Bookshop and will be a one off purchase for personal equipment for the program duration.
Overview of Assessment
The focus of each project varies. Prior to the commencement of each module, a detailed assessment criteria and week by week program will be provided.
