Course Description
Communication Design Projects allow you to undertake a project in variety of specializations focused on professional practice outcomes.
You will be able to choose a project from the Print media (projects on offer will be from the following typography, packaging, printmaking, illustration and publication), Digital Media (projects on offer will be from the following Motion Graphics, Web Design, Interface Design and Spatial relationships in the New Media environment) in Communications for Communication Design (projects on offer will be from the following Conceptual Development for Communication Design, Branding and Positioning Strategies for Communication Design) and Research (projects on offer will be Sustainable Communication Design, Typography as a Communications Device, Communication Designer as facilitator).
Through Studio workshops, seminars and engagement with professional practitioners through guest lectures and visits to studio’s, production houses or design in its environment students will work through the design process as required by professional practice and engage in reflective practices for review. You will be asked to critically evaluate the role of the Communication Designer in the context of the specialization and the project you pursue as an individual, in group critiques and document what you have learnt about collaborating with clients, designers and other discipline areas in relation to the project.

Communication Design Projects allows you to undertake a project in variety of specializations focused on professional practice outcomes in the context of work intergrated briefs with clients and/or industry.
On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- plan and execute a project in an area of specialisation.
- apply advanced skill levels in a area of specialisation.
- critically evaluate the role of the Communication Designer.
- collaborate with clients, designers and other discipline areas in relation to design projects.
Overview of Learning Activities
The Communication Design Projects are primarily involve project based teaching and learning in areas of study that seek to support and inform the core Communication Design studies while developing knowledge and skill to an advanced level through enguagement with client and or industry briefs where the you want to position yourself for entry into the profession.
You will be expected to work in small groups and as individuals as you work through the design process. You will be expected to participate in critiques, presentations, critical reflective practice processes and the delivery of the final form.
Learning is an interactive, participatory process involving the lecturers and students and the success of the projects depends on commitment to participation by the participants.
Overview of Learning Resources
You will have access to studio’s, computer labs, professional practitioners (at key times) and specialisation focused production house visits.
Readings and online resources will be made available in the areas of specialisation and students are expected to engage in active research in the development of their project.
Overview of Assessment
Assessment will be a combination of individual breifs and group projects to address an area of specialization within the Communication Design. Student Critiques/presentations as individual and group tutorial activities are also part of your assessment.
