Course Description
Photoscience Laboratory combines theory with practical skills to construct and use special equipment found in industrial and scientific photographic facilities and in technical applications.
The course is designed to give the student a foundation in the use and construction of basic specialised equipment used in photo science. It also teaches practical skills that may be used in basic troubleshooting of photographic equipment.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
At the conclusion of the course you should:
• Have a basic understanding of triggering devices and applications.
• Be able to accomplish basic soldering.
• Be aware of the use and applications of a multimeter.
• Understand basic electricity and polarity as it is used in photographic applications.
• Have built a working trigger that can be used for photographic applications.
• Create photographs using the trigger device.
Overview of Learning Activities
The course is conducted in the Physics lab. It is primarily focused on the hands-on construction of a triggering device incorporating a delay. Since all the equipment for construction and testing is only available in the lab, it is mandatory that the construction be conducted in class.
Theory is primarily integrated during the lab sessions. There are few formal lectures.

Students will make use of laboratory equipment and facilities within the School. Handout material and lists of other useful resources will be made available as required.
Overview of Assessment
Final Assessment will be based on the successful construction of a working triggering device and attachments, and a written test covering the theory. It will also include a portfolio of photographs that use the trigger device.
