Course Description

In this course you will develop the knowledge and skills to manage professional relationships between agencies and their clients and within agencies. You will investigate the communication industry, and account management roles within the context of commercial practice. You will examine the basic principles of account management and how to develop an environment of trust, respect and partnership with clients.  

  

In the communication industry, leadership, teamwork and effective negotiation skills are essential to be able to manage the needs and expectations of multiple stakeholders. These areas will be explored within this course. 

As part of the course, you will undertake learning activities and/or assessment to engage and connect you with industry relevant to your current studies.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Program Learning Outcomes 

For students enrolled in the Bachelor of Professional Communication (BP354) you will develop the following program learning outcome:   

  • PLO2: Collaborate respectfully with diverse stakeholders, both locally and globally, to problem solve within and across a range of professional contexts.    
  • PLO3: Employ intellectual agility, knowledge, and skills to develop creative solutions for an unpredictable world and to adapt to professional and personal change.    

 

For students enrolled in the Bachelor of Communication - Professional Communication (BP222, BP222SIM, BP222VN), you will develop the following program learning outcome:  

  • PLO1: Critically analyse and apply a diverse and industry relevant body of knowledge and skills to the field of media and communications in a global context. 


Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Analyse and interpret the dynamics of professional advertising relationships within a business context.
  2. Critique and apply relevant theory to leading and managing clients.
  3. Examine global industry practice, and propose and evaluate alternative solutions to client management problems.
  4. Discuss and apply the skills and theory of negotiation in an commercial context.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment may include essays, reports, reflective papers, creative projects and presentations, individually and in groups. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning.
