Course Description

This course aids the student in carrying out a research project that will be the basis for their doctoral thesis.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

The outcomes of a project include a more knowledgeable and skilled practitioner, a contribution to professional and scholarly knowledge, and some body of work or change in practice (p.16, Policy and Procedures for the Degree of Professional Doctorate approved February 2002).

Enabling Knowledge and Skills for Capabilities

Applied qualitative research skills
In-depth knowledge of theory and practice in the systems psychodynamic or complexity science and quality approaches to organisations.

Overview of Learning Activities

The project will be undertaken as per the University regulations for the Professional Doctorate thesis (Policy and Procedures for the Degree of Professional Doctorate approved February 2002).

  • The student is required to undertake an independent thesis project.
  • The student will be supervised in his or her thesis project. A senior supervisor and secondary supervisor will be appointed for the student. (pp. 12 - 14).
  • Regular reports will be submitted as per the regulations (p.14)
  • Students will attenda  fortnightly seminar

  • An updated annotated bibliography of readings
  • Paper presentation to the doctoral seminar, written-up post presentation (if not done in Thesis 2)
  • Satisfactory progress in research/thesis
