Completed a third year degree and have sufficient background to commence research under supervision


Course Description

Research methods provides students with the skills to conduct effective literature searches, compile relevant literature, understand the elements of refereed publication and effetive presentations, conduct error analysis, assess practical aspects of Health and Safety legislation, consider ethics and ethical clearance, understand the role of supervisors in research and understand the issues related to Intellectual Property.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

At the conclusion of this course you will have experience in litereature search and analysis, and will have considered and houroughly understand the issues affecting research.


At the conclusiuon of this course you will be able to proceed confidently with supervised and independent research, being aware of the background issues that need to be addressed prior to, and during the conduct research.


Overview of Learning Activities

Most activities are via distance learning / online. Specific tasks are given which require background reading, consideration and reasponse to a set of questions. 

The library segment is offered face-to-face for studebnts with access to campus, but can also be done online.  A presentation is required.  Students may present this on-campus in May, or may make a presentation to colleagues at their workplace.
