Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities
Students must be enrolled in MC 088, MC 129, or MC164 to undertake this course. There are no pre-requisite courses required. However MBA program entry criteria & capabilities are required.
Course Description
This course is an introduction to the theories and practice of leadership and management in work organizations. The course will explore differences between leadership and management and will review the major frameworks and models discussed in relevant literature. As well as exploring contemporary views, an overview of the evolution of thought and research findings will be provided. Particular emphasis will be placed on the importance of learning from successful practitioners in addition to learning from business research. Classroom discussions will use the candidate’s present job and organization as reference points.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Overview of Learning Activities
Students will participate through a variety of activities including experiential exercises, self-diagnostic tests, class discussion, and case studies. Of critical importance is the expectation that students will share and discuss their own issues in relation to topics.
Students will be asked for on-going feedback in addition to a formal evaluation at the end of the semester.

Students will participate in a variety of learning activities including class discussion, role-plays, case studies and simulations. Of critical importance is the expectation that students will share and discuss their workplace leadership and management experiences at each class.
Overview of Learning Resources
Students will be supplied with courseware that includes learning resources. Courseware will identify required pre-class reading. An extensive and integrated Distributed Learning System (DLS) site will also established for students, which is an integral part of their learning resources.
Courseware will be supplied at the first class meeting.
Overview of Assessment
Assessment is cumulative and all assessable work must be submitted in order to pass the course. There will be two or more pieces of assessable work.
