Course Description

In recognition of the collaborative studio-based nature of work in the media and communication industries, you will work in teams on a number of assignments where your capacity to perform as a productive team member is evaluated. Various assigned project briefs to give you insights into the responsibilities and obligations of working as part of a large or small team. You will also be exposed to the production, time management and communication strategies necessary to achieve the full creative potential of team-based production within the context of a studio environment.
 

This is the designated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course for GD177 Graduate Diploma in Communication Design and MC184 Master if Communication Design. This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.
 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

At the conclusion of this course you should be able to:

  • Perform in a professional and responsible manner within a defined role in either a small or large creative team.
  • Utilise time management strategies in studio-based production so as to realise project specifications and deliverables.
  • Apply theoretical, historical and cultural references to collaborative practice.
  • Adapt your practical experience of team-based production methods to other collaborative project work that relies on obligation and communication.



Overview of Learning Activities

Action-based learning incorporating lectures, workshops, experiential activities, peer interaction, peer problem solving and immersion in studio practice while undertaking project-work.


Overview of Learning Resources

A variety of specialised production facilities and equipment will be available to aid your learning including cameras, computers, scanners, sound recording facilities, and a creative environment designed to foster creative output.


Overview of Assessment

Assessment in this course involves the evaluation of assigned project work that requires creative collaboration for its realisation:

  • Small Group Exercises - 20%
  • Individual contribution to a major Collaborative Project - 80%
