BUSM 3280 Collaborative Action Research Proposal
 


Course Description

Considering and deciding the necessary conditions for the feedback of research data within a collaborative action research project.
Students will frame an evaluation of their action research project and develop a structure for its write-up as an assessable piece of academic work
The course also explores guided reflection on the student’s experience of the content of workshops, his/her experience as an action researcher, and the learning most relevant to professional practice.
 

If you are undertaking this course in Melbourne from semester 2, 2012 onwards your teacher will advise you if you require access to a computer for the course. It is recommended that you have access to a mobile computing device to allow greater flexibility in terms of where you can work on campus outside class times.

On completing this course you will be able to:
• Design and implement an appropriate research data feedback process in an organisational setting
• Utilise the concept of a ‘holding environment’ to design and manage a data feedback process
• Craft a research project report that meets academic requirements whilst conveying the practical challenges of change within an organisational setting
• Writing a practice-based research report that appropriately combines theory, practice and personal reflection on learning about the dynamics of organisations.
• Understand and enact the qualities of a ‘reflective practitioner’ in your professional roles
• Learning from experience for improved professional practice
 


Overview of Learning Activities

The learning activities include
• Analysis of the challenges to thoughtful containment in feeding back the students field research data and the design of an appropriate process
• Staff and peer review of each student’s action research project
• Structured reflection on the strengths and weaknesses of the student’s management of a participative action research project

Written papers covering the gathering and analysis of research data, the management of data feedback and the exploration of organisational change deriving from the research.
