Before commencing this course, you should have completed Network Fundamentals EEET 2320 or equivalent courses, or provide evidence of equivalent capabilities.

Course Description

This course covers the Switching Basics, Intermediate Routing. Internetworking technology provides you with the capabilities and experience to develop Wide Area Networks (WANs). You will learn how to program routers, bridges, and switches and how they work to connect to the Internet and Local Area Networks (LANs). Building capabilities in the design, implementation and troubleshooting of WANs are the main objectives of the course.

2.1 Application of established technical and practical methods to the solution of well- defined engineering problems.
2.2 Application of technical and practical techniques, tools and resources to well defined engineering problems.

Course learning Outcomes (CLOs)
Upon successful completion of the course, you should be able to:
1. Install, operate and troubleshoot a small to medium size enterprise branch network with switching technologies.
2. Configure and verify OSPF (single and multiple area), EIGRP (single AS).
3. Recognize High availability (FHRP), verify Syslog and SNMP v2 & v3.
4. Configure and verify basic WAN technologies.
5. Install and configure switches and routers in multiprotocol internetworks using LAN and WAN interfaces.
6. Monitor network performance and conduct troubleshooting, resolve issues.

Students will be able to access course information and learning materials through the Learning Hub (also known as myRMIT) and will be provided with copies of additional materials in class. Lists of relevant reference texts, resources in the library and freely accessible Internet sites will be provided. You will also use laboratory equipment and computers within the School during project and assignment work.
