Course Description
The course is designed to enable students to reflect and develop knowledge and skills to successfully apply for their co-op placement position (and later career position)
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
On completion of the WIL/Co-op course students will have established an e-portfolio that will consist of:
▪ long term goals and action steps to achieve goals
▪ learning style inventory
▪ knowledge, skills and abilities audit with a focus on graduate capabilities
▪ professional development plan to address gaps
▪ development and articulation of employability skills
▪ resume and customised cover letter addressing key selection criteria in job advertisements
▪ behavioural interview techniques
▪ assessment centre skills
▪ co-op placement strategy
Overview of Learning Activities
Learning activities will include workshops, practical exercises, simulations and assigned projects. Students will develop individual e-portfolios in preparation of their co-op year (and then review and update them over the duration)
Overview of Learning Resources
Students will have access to online course materials on the Learning Hub and additional online information from RMIT Library, Career Development and Education and Learning Skills Unit. There will also be 3-4 compulsory workshops at the start of the semester.
Overview of Assessment
Completion of career preparation projects which may include:
▪ written exercises and projects
▪ oral presentations
▪ simulated demonstrations
