To qualify for entry into this course you need an undergraduate degree in a relevant area or substantial industry experience in a related field. If you are part time you need to have completed Theories and Professional Practice 1 before commencing Integrated Project 1.
This course will introduce you to the specific research and practical skills that you need to integrate your learning from the program around the creation and management of a project. Your learning will be located in a studio/ workshop setting where you will be introduced to research methodologies that relate to the investigation. You will conceptualise and develop an original research proposal for a project that locates, analyses and responds to a site, location or specific research question. Your project work will explore the theoretical and practical aspects of your chosen field at a foundational level and will be the principle method for integrating your learning. Projects can be simulated or real depending on opportunities.
This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/ or community is integral to your experience.
The course Integrated project 1 is delivered through a weekly class over the twelve week semester.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- develop a research proposal for a project
- implement and evaluate a small project in your field of study
- manage all aspects of your project (and could include site analysis, concept development, budget, fabrication and documentation)
- integrate theory and practice through critical analysis of projects.
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
Master of Art in Public Spaces:
• engage in self-directed learning and independent research with an emphasis on art in public space practice to develop an individual and collaborative art practice and locate practices within an appropriate conceptual and theoretical context
• test, experiment and explore real and conceptual issues and develop key project management skills through innovative public practice and engagement with international and local industry
• critically examine global, social, cultural, environmental, and historical knowledge and contexts that inform public art practice
• research, analyse and synthesise information and select methods and resources to develop communication and work ready skills appropriate to the public art field
• engage in autonomous and collaborative continuous learning concerning new developments in cultural/artistic production and associated discourses in art in public spaces
• create and manage a safe, sustainable and effective project environment within public space both independently and with your peers
Master of Arts Management
• critically evaluate and make judgements on the social, legal and international aspects of actions and decisions in arts management, with an understanding of professional expectations and ethical requirements
• engage critically in theoretical, historical, social, legal, environmental and cultural contexts with reference to the arts management industry context.
• demonstrate the capacity to work independently, as well as with others in group and team activities and decision-making processes to seek innovative and critically reflective solutions and outcomes.
Overview of Learning Activities
You will engage in learning that involves a range of activities, both face to face and online, such as studio workshops, site/venue visits, demonstrations, discussions and presentations you will be given the opportunity to develop a small project in your chosen field of study.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes.
Master of Art in Public Space Assessment consists of:
Realised art work
Assessment will be based on live projects in physical public spaces. As such, assessment is based on the communication of concepts before they are realised and the effective translation of these ideas into art in public space.
Two public projects (each 50%) assessed through site analysis, proposal development and resolution of works.
Master of Arts Management Assessment may consist of:
Task 1: 500 words, 10% weighting (due Seminar 3)
Task 2: 6000 words, 90% weighting (due Seminar 10)
Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
