Course Description

In this course you will learn to create technically accurate garment drawings and specification documents. You will create patterns and complete garment specification documents with a focus on silhouettes, garment detailing, trims and garment construction details.

Product specifications are the guidelines for garment production and enable a designer to communicate with the production team to ensure the concepts are interpreted accurately.  This course will provide you with the knowledge of how fit and quality can affect the end product in terms of cost and speciification for garment construction.
 

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

1.Apply initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in your study to demonstrate personal and professional attributes to be work ready.

2.Demonstrate critical thinking and innovation when identifying and responding to problems in diverse context within the fashion and textile industry.

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

1. Identify and analyse garment components, trim detail, seam /stitch types used by the fashion textile and clothing industries
2. Prepare a range of specification sheets used to communicate in a garment production cycle, to meet industry standards
3. Identify garment features and fabric characteristics that may affect the design process
4. Apply basic grading increments to garments
5. Investigate and analyse the fit and quality of garments.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

Assessment will cover practical components of pattern development and grading and the theoretical and practical requirements of developing specification reports.  Assessments will include practical assessment tasks based on industry standards.  Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
