Course Description
In this course you will work on industry style briefs. You will develop a concept, roughs and a design rationale and present these to a group including Industry. Feedback will enable you to execute multipart designs using industry software to the specifications of the brief. The course is designed to extend your knowledge of design principles and elements and develop your design aesthetic.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
In this course you will develop the following program outcomes:
- Identify and employ a range of graphic and communication techniques in order to design, refine and produce artwork using well developed digital production skills for multiple contexts.
- Demonstrate innovation and critical thinking when applying technical and creative skills to address artistic and industry problems.
- Interpret and respond to a brief considering the needs and expectations of relevant stakeholders, industry conventions, legal requirements, and ethical and sustainable practice implications for the Graphic Design industry and broader global community.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Analyse an industry brief and develop a successful and creative design concept to address the brief.
- Present and discuss concepts to a group for response and feedback.
- Refine and apply graphic outcomes to multiple elements of an industry brief.
- Use industry software to execute graphic design into a range of required formats.
Overview of Learning Activities
Your learning activities will take place in a computer laboratory using industry software. You will complete exercises, industry style briefs and activities. You will also be required to undertake independent study.
Overview of Learning Resources
RMIT will provide you with resources and tools for learning in this course through our online systems. Learning resources include access to computer laboratories and relevant software. You will also be expected to make use of the library resources. The University Library has extensive resources for Graphic Design students. You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program capabilities. Assessments are as follows:
Project 1 50%
Project 2 50%
Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
