Assumed Knowledge 

This course assumes a high level of proficiency in Vietnamese language and will be taught almost exclusively in Vietnamese. It is highly recommended that this course is taken in the final semester of your program.
 


Course Description

This course refines and develops your ability to communicate effectively in Vietnamese language in a range of professional contexts. The course will support you to master the formal conventions of various modes of professional communication that new graduates are likely to encounter, including employment applications and interviews, oral presentations, leading discussions, and professional writing for reports and other common forms of organisational communication. These practical skills will be presented within the broader context of reflection on key differences between Vietnamese and international workplace culture and practice.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Identify key differences between Vietnamese and international communication styles
  • Engage in various forms of written and oral communication Vietnamese at a professional level
  • Express complex scholarly and technical concepts related to your core field of study in Vietnamese



Overview of Learning Activities

In weekly seminars you will study the cultural and linguistic conventions of different modes of professional communication in Vietnamese. This will involve regular practical tasks conducted both in class and independently.

This practical course provides a range of learning experiences with relevant and applicable skills and knowledge. Learning tasks include various forms of interaction including, but not limited to, oral presentation, small group discussions, and business writing.

Guest lectures and/or external visits may be organised to enrich your learning and language application experiences in business, government and various professional organizations.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. 

ASSIGNMENT 1 (INDIVIDUAL – 25%) - Writing a press release (LO1 and LO2)

ASSIGNMENT 2 (INDIVIDUAL – 35%) - Writing an advertorial (LO1 and LO2)

ASSIGNMENT 3 (GROUP – 40%) - Creative script writing/ Landing page writing

Option 2 – Landing page writing
