Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

This course develops integrated technical and professional capabilities for Associate Degree students based on knowledge and skills developed in previous courses and current study. You should have completed at least 96 credit points of courses in the Associate Degree to enrol in this course.

Course Description

This course is taken in the final year of the Associate Degree in Engineering Technology program. This major project work involves you in developing, managing and achieving the objectives of an engineering project and applying professional and technical skills and knowledge in a real or simulated workplace scenario.
The engineering project itself is a capstone project that encourages a holistic approach to managing the technical and managerial aspects of a project, using the multiple technologies and topics you have learned. You will work on projects in small teams. However, you will submit an individual project report for assessment. You will be allocated one or more supervisors.
This engineering project activity is carried out either in conjunction with industry or to simulate a real engineering work environment, thereby contributing to Work Integrated Learning.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course contributes to the following Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs):
1.4. Discernment of engineering developments within the practice area.
1.5. Knowledge of contextual factors impacting the practice area.
1.6. Understanding of the scope, principles, norms, accountabilities and bounds of contemporary engineering practice in the area of practice.
2.1. Application of established technical and practical methods to the solution of well-defined engineering problems.
2.2. Application of technical and practical techniques, tools and resources to well defined engineering problems.

• Lectures
• Site visits
• self paced learning
• Teamwork/peer learning
• Reflective Journals
• Literature research online and library
• Project based learning
