Course Description

This course provides you with an opportunity to explore a problem in depth, complete a critical review of literature on the topic, identify relevant theories and models for research, analyse and synthesize findings and report the outcome in a 15,000-word research thesis at a standard suitable for publication in a professional journal.

On the successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  1. Develop advanced knowledge of a particular issue in an area of study.
  2. Undertake a critical review of the academic literature relevant to an area of study.
  3. Analyse and evaluate the theories and models that support the research area.
  4. Employ research methods and tools for gathering and analysing data.
  5. Communicate findings as an academic thesis.


Overview of Learning Activities

In this course, you are required to undertake independent self-directed work. The direction of this course will be under the general guidance of a supervisor who has knowledge of the area of study and substantial research experience. You should meet with your supervisor on a regular basis to monitor the progress and direction of study. The thesis is to be submitted for examination with the approval of the supervisor. You should aim for a refereed conference paper from the thesis.
