Course Description

In this course you will further develop your knowledge and skills in digital media design. The focus of this course will be how image, text, sound and time interrelate in the creation of digital media. You will develop digital media ideas from concept to full realisation.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify and analyse key design theories in different cultural contexts.
  • Apply design concepts and methods in the production of digital media projects.
  • Apply the design process (research, create, produce and evaluate) to the development of responses to design briefs.
  • Create digital media solutions for different cultural contexts.
  • Evaluate and discuss your creative decisions and how you apply design principles to your projects.

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

  • Analyse and apply relevant knowledge and skills to the field of digital media in a global context.
  • Use digital media technologies to design, produce and evaluate content, and communicate to diverse stakeholders.
  • Identify and provide solutions to problems within the digital media field.
  • Communicate using diverse formats and strategies appropriate to different audiences.
  • Work with others in a range of roles and contexts, demonstrating cultural, environmental, ethical and social awareness.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

Assessments for this course will be:

  • Individual presentation evaluating how a product or process relates to broader theoretical and cultural contexts (20%)
  • Cross Platform Design Solution Project - concept, prototype, realization (35%)
  • Client presentations – concept and product (group project) (25%)
  • Process Journal with guided questions (20%)
