You should have completed Engineering Management and Intercultural Management and communication.


Course Description

The course covers effective methodologies to devise real solutions for challenges faced by today’s technology leaders. It also covers processes, operations and understanding company infrastructure and developing flexibility for change. The course will involve engaging in a real technology environment and acquiring the skills and knowledge for a successful technical leader.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course contributes to the following program learning outcomes:

1.5 Knowledge of contextual factors impacting the engineering discipline
1.6 Understanding of the scope, principles, norms, accountabilities and bounds of contemporary engineering practice in the specific discipline
3.2 Effective oral and written communication in professional and lay domains
3.5 Orderly management of self, and professional conduct.
3.6 Effective team membership and team leadership.


On completion of this course you should be able to:

1. Communicate with teams and the community at large to investigate and present different technology leadership techniques.
2. Deliver business value to clients via technology leadership, and describe how this is achieved.
3. Develop a business benefits realisation plan to ensure value creation. 
4. List the challenges of managing complexity and uncertainty in technology leadership.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of technology leadership skills.
6. Support and improve technology leadership practice by the application of key methodologies and frameworks.

Learning resources will consist of recommended references and class notes which may be accessed through "myRMIT" if you are in Melbourne and via "RMIT online" if you are based in Vietnam.
The set of references is deliberately broad, including books, journal publications, government reports, industry standards and handbooks, and web-based resources.
