Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

None. It is assumed that students have an English proficiency of 5.5 in IELTS or equivalent.

Course Description

This course lays the foundation for students to communicate in English in their Foundation Program and future studies. Students will increase their English skills in academic contexts and learn strategies to succeed in higher education. Themes will include social and digital connections, communication, education now and in the future, and professionalism.

Overview of Learning Activities

The course will comprise a combination of class exercises, projects, group work and oral presentations. Learning activities may include excursions, library sessions, research projects and group work.

You will receive a Student Book to be used in class and, through the Canvas LMS, you will have access to online lessons, audio recordings and transcripts, links to additional resources and access to RMIT study support and library resources. There you will also find the teaching schedule and assessment requirements.
